Probation Period

Probationary period for all employees is for up to 2 months. During the probationary period, the employer or the employee may terminate the agreement without cause, without notice and without payment of severance.

Minimum Wage Requirements

The Minimum Wage in Colombia is COP 908,526 per month.

Maximum working hours and overtime

Normal working hours are limited to 48 hours per week (Monday‐Saturday), 8 hours per day plus 1 hour per day for lunch.

Bonus and expense payments

In Colombia, there is a statutory requirement to pay a 13th salary bonus a year.

Parental Leave

  • Maternity Leave: 18 weeks of Maternity leave is granted after birth. During this period, employees receive an allowance equal to 100% of the average salaries, paid by the government.
  • Paternity Leave: employees are entitled to 8 paid days funded by the employer.

Severance payment depends on the employee’s salary and length of the labor relationship:

  • Workers earning up to 10 minimum salaries per month - 30 days from day 1 of employment up to the first year plus 20 days for subsequent years of employment.
  • Workers earning 10 minimum salaries or more per month - 20 days from day 1 of employment up to 1 year; and 15 days for subsequent years of employment.
