Employee Agreement Details
Contracts have to be in Bulgarian but can be bilingual. They should include personal information such as the base salary, the years of service of the employee. The start date, which cannot be prior to the start date of the job. Job position based on the national code of the National Jobs Classificatory Database, among others.
The minimum trial period is 1 month and the maximum is 6 months. However, the trial period is not mandatory.
Minimum Wage Requirements
The minimum wage in Bulgaria is BGN 650 per month.
Maximum working hours and overtime
The daily standard working day is made up of 8 hours from Monday to Friday. Weekly the workday is 40 hours.
Overtime must be paid obligatorily. The daily wage if the extra work is done on weekdays is increased by 50%, in the case of weekends it is increased by 75% and on national holidays by 100%.
- Maternity leave: employees must take a minimum leave of 90 days and up to 2 years after the child is born. Leave must be taken 45 days prior to the stipulated birth date. Payment will be done by the National Insurance Institute directly to the employee.
- Paternity leave: employees are entitled to 15 calendar days since the child is born paid by the National Insurance Institute.
Employees can take up to 6 months of sick leave. The first 3 days are paid by the employer and from the 4th day are paid by the National Insurance Institute.
