    In Singapore, employees are entitled to a minimum of 7 days of paid holiday a year after working for the same establishment for 3 months. Afterward one additional day is added each year until reaching 14 days. However, it is common practice to grant 20 days of paid leave.

    Employment Contract Details

    Employment contracts in written are not required but strongly advised, and must comply with local laws and regulations. Employee agreements should register wages, bonus, working hours, termination clause, description of the duties among others.

    Probation Period

    The minimum probation period is 3 months, and the maximum probation period is 6 months.

    Minimum Wage Requirements

    The Minimum Wage in Singapore is SGD 4,500 per month.

    Maximum working hours and overtime

    Standard is a 5 day workweek with 9 working hours per day and 44 hours per week. The maximum working hours are:

    • 9 hours a day for a 5-day workweek
    • 8 hours a day for a 6-day workweek

    Bonus and expense payments

    In Singapore is possible to grant an Annual Wage Supplement (AWS), but not compulsory. The AWS is commonly known as the 13th month payment, is a single annual payment on top of an employee’s total annual wage. This bonus is usually paid in December.

    Parental Leave

    • Maternity Leave: employees are entitled to paid maternity leave of 16 weeks provided they are employed for more than 3 months prior childbirth and the child is a Singaporean citizen. During this period, employers cannot terminate employment. The first 8 weeks are borne by the employer and the remaining 8 weeks can be reimbursed by the government.
    • Paternity Leave: employees are entitled to 2 weeks' paid leave. To meet the requirements of Government-paid Paternity Leave (GPPL), the child must be a Singapore citizen, the employee has or was legally married to the partner between the conception and childbirth and the employee was employed for more than 3 months prior to childbirth.

    Sick Leave

    The number of days of paid sick leave a new employee is entitled to depends on the length of the labor relationship. It ranges from 5 to 14 days for 3 to 6 months of employment. Sick leave is paid by the employer, however the insurance will cover the medical costs.

    Termination requirements for employees in

    A termination letter is mandatory. Any notice of termination, either by an employer or an employee, must be in writing. Any not taken holidays must be paid out upon termination, except for dismissal due to misconduct, where any unused leave will be forfeited.

    Notice Period

    There is not a marked period, but is common practice to give 1 month of notice. This is applicable for the employer and the employee and must be specified in the contract.
