    General Taxation

    Individual Income Tax

    Income tax range can raise up to 10% of the gross salary. The percentage will vary according to the income:

    • Up to EUR 80 - 0%
    • Up to EUR 250 - 4%
    • Up to EUR 450 - 8%
    • Over EUR 450 - 10%

    In case the person has two jobs, it will be taxed as 10%.

    Employer Cost

    The Employer's cost is 5% of the employee's salary.

    Employee Agreement Details

    Agreements must be in Albanian and can be bilingual. The document should include relevant information such as personal information of the employee, job description, duration of the employment, working hours and gross salary among others.

    Probation period

    Maximum probation period is 6 months and it's not mandatory.

    Minimum Wage Requirements

    Minimum wage is EUR 200 per month.

    Maximum working hours and overtime

    Standard working hours per day are 8 on a 5 day work week, summing 40 hours per week.

    Additional working hours are allowed only for urgent matters and are capped at 8 hours per week. For this case, the employee will be paid 120% of their standard rate for the extra hours.

    Parental Leave

    • Maternity leave: employees are entitled to 9 months of leave, starting at least 28 days before the estimated due date. The first 6 months, the employee will receive 70% of the basic salary from the employer. The following 3 months the employee will receive 50% of the basic salary in Kosovo paid by the Government.
    • Paternity leave: employees are entitled 2 days of full paid leave after the birth and 2 weeks of unpaid leave until the child reaches the age of 3.

    Sick Leave

    Employees are entitled to 20 working days per year of sick leave paid by the employer. During this period employees will receive 100% of the salary.

    Termination requirements for employees

    Termination will require to apply notice period according to the type of contract, for fixed term contracts notice period will be lower. Terminations must be in writing and the employer is obliged to provide a statement with the reason why the employee is being terminated. Severance is not mandatory.

    Severance is not mandatory in Kosovo.

    Notice Period

    Notice period will vary depending on the type of contract. For fixed term contracts, notice period will be 30 days. For indefinite term contracts, notice period will vary according to the length of the employment relationship:

    • From 6 months to 2 years of employment - 30 days of notice period
    • From 2 years to 10 years of employment - 45 days of notice period
    • Over 10 years of employment - 60 days of notice period

    Employers that won’t renew a fixed term contract must inform the employee at least thirty (30) days before the expiry of the contract. Failure to do so entitles the employee to an extension of employment with full pay for thirty (30) calendar days.
