    In Greece, employees are entitled to a minimum of 20 days of paid holiday a year. For each year of tenure, employees are entitled to an additional day of paid leave up to a total of 22 days. The are 25 days entitlement for employees with 10 years of employment for the same establishment or 12 years of work experience.

    The standard probation period is 3 months.

    Minimum Wage Requirements

    The Minimum Wage is EUR 683.76 per month.

    Maximum working hours and overtime

    Normal working hours over a five-day period must not exceed 40 hours a week, 8 daily.

    Bonus and expense payments

    Employees are entitled to receive a 13th 14th salaries which includes Easter (half a month’s salary), vacation bonus (half month’s salary) and Christmas bonus (a full month’s salary).

    Parental Leave

    Employees are given 2 days per childbirth paid by the employer.

    • Maternity Leave: employees are entitled to 119 calendar days, where only the first month is paid by the employer. In addition to the maternity leave, 6 months' leave paid the minimum wage by the labour Employment Office (OAED). Instead of receiving reduced daily working hours employees may agree with their employers to receive an extra 3.5 months leave paid by the employer.
    • Paternity Leave: employees are entitled to 2 days of paid leave after the birth of their child.

    Sick Leave

    In case of sick leave, the employer is obliged to pay the employee 13 days during the first year and 25 days from the second year onwards.

    Termination requirements for employees in

    An indefinite employment agreement can have a probationary period of 12 months, which may be terminated without notice and severance pay, unless otherwise agreed by the parties.

    After 1 year of employment the employee cannot be terminated without written notice from the employer. The Severance Pay changes according to the length of service and can be up to 12 months.

    Notice Period

    In Greece, the notice period is based on the length of the labor relationship:

    • Up to 2 years of employment - 1 month’s notice
    • 2 - 5 years of employment - 2 month’s notice
    • 5 - 10 years of employment - 3 month’s notice
    • 10+ years of employment - 4 month’s notice
