    In Croatia, employees are entitled to 4 weeks of paid time off after a year of employment. If the employee worked less than a year, paid time off will depend on the amount of months worked.

    Individual Income Tax

    The individual income tax depends on employee's annual gross salary:

    • For incomes up to HRK 360,000 - 20%
    • For incomes over HRK 360,000 - 30%

    Employer Cost

    The employer cost range is 16.5% of the employee's gross salary.

    Employment contracts must be in Croatian language. Bilingual contracts are allowed.

    Minimum Wage Requirements

    Minimum wage requirement for full time employees in 2021 amounts to HRK 4,250.

    Maximum working hours and overtime

    The standard working hours in Croatia is 8 hours per day in a 5 day working week from Monday to Friday.

    Parental leave

    It can be divided into two periods per year, each period with a minimum of 30 days. Both maternal and paternal leave is paid by the state.

    • Maternity Leave: employee is entitled at the 28th week of pregnancy, or at the earliest 45 days before the expected date of birth. It lasts until the 6th month of the child's life. Maternity leave is paid in 100% of the salary of the last 6 months of the employee.
    • Paternity Leave: employee is entitled after the child reaches the age of 6 months, and they may use it until the child turns 8 years. Parental leave is given for a period of 4 months (3 years if you have more than 3 children). If an employee takes a parental leave they need to notify the employer and then submit an application to the state. They will get about 5 000 KN a month.

    Sick Leave

    Full time employees are entitled to 42 days of sick leave paid by the employer. Up to 70% of the salary will depend on what is agreed on in the employment agreement. From the 43th day, the sick day will be paid by the Croatian Health Insurance Fund.

    Termination requirements for employees in

    Either the employer or employee may terminate the employment contract, presenting a justified reason in writing.

    Notice Period

    Is based on the length of the labor relationship

    • Up to 1 year of employment - 2 weeks
    • Up to 2 years of employment - 6 weeks
    • Up to 5 years of employment - 8 weeks
    • Up to 10 years of employment - 10 weeks
    • More than 10 years of employment - 12 weeks

    Probation Period

    Maximum 6 months.
