Minimum Wage Requirements

There is no minimum wage by Law in Bangladesh.

Individual Income Tax

The individual income tax ranges from 0% to 30%. Income tax is calculated according to progressive rates. Multiple additional factors may impact overall rates such as the household status and the number of children.

For foreign residents the tax rate is a flat 30%

Employer Cost

The employer cost is generally estimated at 13.66% of the employee salary.

Overtime Pay & Maximum Hours

Standard working hours are 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week. The standard workweek is from Sunday to Thursday.

Maternity Leave

Employees who have worked for 6 consecutive months are entitled to 16 weeks of paid leave. 8 days must be taken before the child's birth. The employee will receive their average salary of the 3 months proceeding when they gave notice of the birth, and the employer will be responsible for this pay.

Paternity Leave

There is no paternity leave currently required by law.

Parental Leave

In Bangladesh, no law covers parental leave.

Sick Leave

Employees are entitled to paid sick leave for up to 14 days. This leave is paid 100% by the employer.

Termination Requirements

Terminations in Bangladesh can be complex. There is no at-will termination in Bangladesh for employers outside the probation period and termination must be done for just cause.

Compliant terminations include:

Voluntarily by the employee
By mutual agreement
Unilaterally by the employer based on:
- probation period
- objective grounds
- disciplinary dismissal
- performance due to unsuitability for the job
By the expiration of the contract

Notice Period

The minimum notice period is 60 days and will be increased according to the type of the employment.

60 days if the employee is monthly rated
120 days if the employee is permanent worker

Severance for Employees

In Bangladesh, all employees who are terminated are entitled to severance pay. Severance pay is 30 days of salary per year of service up to 1 months base compensation.

Paid Time Off

Both full-time and part-time employees are entitled to 18 working days of paid time off (PTO) a year. PTO accrues monthly at 1 day for every 18 days worked. Employees are eligible for annual leave after they have completed their probation period.

Contracts must be in English and can be bilingual. They must be in writing and signed by both parties.

Probation Period

Probation periods are mandatory. The minimum probation period is 3 months and the maximum probation period is 6 months.
